BPS Records Annual Inflation in October 2023 at 2.56%

JAKARTA. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded an annual or year-on-year (yoy) inflation rate in October 2023 of 2.56%. This figure increased compared to annual inflation in September which was recorded at 2.28%.
While on a monthly basis, inflation in October actually slowed down to 0.17% or lower than September which was recorded at 0.19%. The group contributing to annual inflation in October was dominated by the food, beverage and tobacco group with a share of 1.39%.
Furthermore, the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group with a share of 0.23%. Then the personal care and other services group with a share of 0.23%.
The food, beverage and tobacco group was contributed by commodities such as rice, filter clove cigarettes and purebred chicken meat.
In fact, specifically for rice, BPS recorded it as the largest contributor in the last three months or since August-October 2023, with an inflation rate in October of 1.72% and its contribution of 0.06%.
Inflation also occurred in 87 cities and only two cities recorded deflation.
The commodity contributing to annual inflation in the housing, water, electricity and household fuel group was the cost of house contracts. Then, in the personal care and other services group, it was contributed by the gold jewelry commodity.
In October, BPS also noted that the annual inflation rate occurred in all cities in Indonesia with the highest inflation occurring in Tanjung Pandan at 5.43%. (ASP)
