Becoming a Member of the OECD Competition Committee, Indonesia Adopts Global Standards

JAKARTA. The Indonesian government is officially registered as a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) competition committee after being ratified through Presidential Decree Number 11 of 2023.

For information, Indonesia has actually been involved in the OECD competition committee since December 15, 2015. However, by becoming an official member, Indonesia can adopt its competition policy and law enforcement according to international standards.

Business competition supervision activities in Indonesia so far carried out by the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU).

Quoting Kontan.co.id, so far, KPPU has only had the status of an observer or reviewer in the activities of the OECD competition committee. But after Indonesia became one of its members, KPPU's status has now changed to associate.

By becoming a member, KPPU is also expected to implement competition policy and law enforcement in Indonesia in accordance with OECD recommendations.
There are several OECD recommendations related to competition and law enforcement, including transparency and procedural fairness in law enforcement, policy assessment and competition neutrality.

In addition, the OECD also recommends the eradication of bid rigging in procurement, merger analysis, effective action against cartels, as well as international cooperation in the investigation and trial of competition cases. (ASP/KEN)
