Soaring, Number of Registered Taxpayers Increased by 16.5 million in 2021

JAKARTA. The number of taxpayers (WP) registered until the end of 2021 has increased significantly, namely 16.5 million taxpayers to 66.3 million from 2020 which only amounted to 49.8 million taxpayers.

According to the 2021 Annual Report of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT), the increase in the number occurred for all types of taxpayers. From the previous 3.6 million, there are now 3.9 million taxpayers.

Meanwhile, the number of individual taxpayers rose to 61.5 million from previously 45.4 million and treasurer taxpayers increased to 873 thousand from previously only 742 thousand taxpayers.

Additionally, according to DGT, formal compliance has improved along with the rise in the number of registered taxpayers. This can be seen from the compliance ratio for the submission of Annual Tax Returns (SPT) which increased to 84.07% from previously only 77.63%.

Minor Notes

However, DGT still has minor notes. Despite the fact that the number of taxpayers has increased, those who pay taxes have actually decreased.

Quoting CNNIndonesia.com, the tax authorities have prepared several steps to boost tax revenue this year.

For example, by strengthening tax extensification by prioritizing supervision of wealthy taxpayers or High Individual Persons and groups and the digital economy.

Second, the DGT will also optimize the expansion of the tax base, including utilizing the results of the Voluntary Disclosure Program and integrating the National Identity Number (NIK) as the Taxpayer Identification Number.

As of November 15, 2022, there have been 52.9 million NIK integrated with Tax ID Number, or 75% of the number of NIKs that should have been integrated.

Third, accelerating reforms in human resources, organization, business processes, and regulations in the field of taxation. Fourth, the provision of targeted and measurable fiscal incentives so that domestic investment increases.
