MUC Professionals Address Transfer Pricing Concerns for the Mining Sector at UPN Veteran Yogyakarta

JAKARTA. Two professionals from MUC Consulting, Transfer Pricing Manager Rama Ames Remonda, and Meiliana, were invited as speakers at the Practitioner Lecture event held by the Accounting Program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Yogyakarta. This event took place on Saturday, September 28.

During the virtual event, Ames and Meiliana presented the topic "Transfer Pricing Practices in the Mining Sector: Documentation and Analysis Challenges." This theme was essential for the participants, consisting of students and lecturers from the mining accounting program.

In her opening remarks, Kusharyanti, Head of the Accounting Department at the Faculty of Economics and Business, UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, expressed hope that the material presented would broaden the participants’ insights. "We hope that our students’ knowledge will expand, helping them to truly understand the realities of the business environment," she stated.

On this occasion, Wahyu Nuryanto, Transfer Pricing Partner at MUC Consulting, expressed his hope that the material presented would truly benefit and expand participants' knowledge. According to him, understanding transfer pricing is essential, especially for accounting students.

Wahyu explained that transfer pricing is basically a process of determining prices by a company for transactions carried out by entities in a business group. Actually, transactions in business groups are not special and occur regularly.

However, transfer pricing often attracts attention because it is frequently misused to avoid or reduce tax obligations. For this reason, it is crucial for tax authorities to ensure such misuse does not occur.

Therefore, taxpayers with transactions involving related parties must be able to demonstrate that these transactions are not intended for tax avoidance purposes. "One way to prove this is by preparing transfer pricing documentation, or a TP Doc," said Wahyu.

This requirement applies equally to group companies in the mining sector. Affiliate transactions can include the sale or purchase of mining commodities as well as transactions for mining services.

Overall, the Practitioner Lecture event went well, with participants showing great enthusiasm for the material presented. MUC Consulting hopes to continue collaborations like this, as such events serve as a valuable platform for knowledge transfer from professionals to students. (ASP/KEN)
