The 2023 Sea Games Athlete Bonus Tax is Borne by the Government

JAKARTA. The government will bear the Income Tax payable on the bonuses received by the 2023 Cambodia Sea Games athletes.

Quoting Kontan.co.id, the bonus value that will be given by the government to athletes competing in the 2023 Sea Games reaches IDR 275 billion.

As it is known, Indonesia finished third overall in the number of medals won at the Sea Games.The number of medals won by Indonesian athletes was 276 consisting of 87 gold medals, 80 silver medals and 109 bronze medals.

In fact, bonuses are income tax objects that are tax payable.This is regulated in the Regulation of the Director General of Taxes Number PER-11/PJ/2015 concerning the imposition of Income Tax on gifts and awards.

In the regulation, it is stated that prizes or awards for competitions given through a competition as well as awards given in connection with certain achievements are income tax objects.

The amount of income tax rate payable on gifts and awards is in accordance with Article 17 of the Income Tax Law. 

However, because they are considered to have made the nation proud, the prizes received by these athletes are borne by the government. (ASP/KEN)
