The Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world recently has limited activities to the point where various businesses have to work online. Social distancing policies that have occurred have forced us to work remotely or work from home. These conditions make the library of PT Multi Utama Consultindo (MUC) have to find solutions or creative ways to keep the library useful and active in providing services.
The solution taken by the company to deal with this problem is to use a Smart Library digital library which is supported by the services of E-Library Gramedia.
According to Endang Suryaningsih, Document Controller at MUC, prior to the pandemic, libraries had actually tried to make the transition to digital, but it was not as optimal as when the pandemic hit.
For approximately two years using the Smart Library, Endang and other employees find it very helpful because the application is easy to access, and e-books can be read anytime and anywhere.
The employees also appreciate the protected copyrights of publishers and writers on the E-Library Gramedia application, so that reading activities can be much more comfortable.
Currently, there are 73 e-book titles owned by MUC's digital library, with the self-development category being the most read and interested by employees. Then, according to Endang, the flow of book lending on the application has increased little by little.
To increase reading interest and visitors to the Smart Library application, Endang and the team will take various ways, such as promoting the new collection to MUC employees, holding book reviews and organizing literacy activities. In addition, MUC also wishes to conduct an online book review by inviting a well-known author to make literacy activities more interesting.
