Taxpayer Status Validation to Registering Tax ID Number Can Now Be Done at Bank

JAKARTA. The Directorate General of Tax (DGT) in collaboration with a number of state owned banks incorporated in State Owned Bank Association (Himbara), launched an application to validate the status of taxpayers and the making of a Tax ID Number (NPWP), on Thursday (7/23). With this application banking can confirm the taxpayer status of prospective customers in real time.
Several banks that can access this application include Bank Mandiri, Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Bank Tabungan Negara and Bank Negara Indonesia. The goal is to make it easier for banking to confirm the taxpayer status of prospective customers.
In addition to prospective customers who do not have a Tax ID Number, the application is expected to be able to meet one of the requirements in opening an account, which is to have a Tax ID. Number quickly without having to come to the tax office.
In his remark, Director General of Taxes Suryo Utomo said, the facility issued is a part of government effort in encouraging economic recovery affected by Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19). Among others, related to the provision of interest subsidy facilities or margins on credit to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that require liquidity assistance to support their business activities, with the condition that the related MSMEs already have Tax ID Number.
With this application, MSMEs that do not have a NPWP yet, can directly apply for credit assistance to banks. "Actually this is the same as registering Tax ID Number online, but it involves banks," said Suryo, Thursday (7/23) in Jakarta.

Previously, MSMEs had also received incentive, in the form of the final income tax , which was borne by the government until the December 2020 tax period. So far, taxpayers who are classified as MSME business actors, as stipulated in Government Regulation (PP) number 23 of 2018, are subject to a final PPh rate of 0.5%.
Pay and Report Tax Through the Bank
DGT hopes that the collaboration between tax authority and banking can be increased. So that, in the future Bank can not only do validity and make Tax ID Number, but it can be a means to pay and report taxes at once.
If the collaboration realized, then both DGT and Banking can gain benefit. For DGT, if the bank can be a place to pay and report taxes, then it can increase the level of voluntary compliance of taxpayer. Whereas for banking, this system can be used as a media to see the level of risk of default or Non Performing Loan (NPL) of a prospective customer.
