BPK:IDR 5.83 Trillion Tax Underpayment in 2023 Highlights Need for Tax System Evaluation
JAKARTA. The Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK) said that tax revenue in 2023 had an underpayment of IDR 5.8 trillion, as revealed in the 2024 Semester Audit Results Overview (IHPS) I.
Quoting Bisnis.com, the tax revenue shortfall occurred because no tax revenue transactions were found in the state revenue module.
In addition, the BPK suspects that it may have occurred because the transaction indicated has a different value from the Tax Return (SPT), Income Tax, and Value-Added Tax.

Recommend System Evaluation and Improvement
Therefore, BPK has urged the Ministry of Finance to evaluate and enhance the tax information system to ensure that all subsystems are interconnected and produce valid data.
Meanwhile, according to Kontan.co.id, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has responded to BPK's recommendation, stating that it is currently working on improving the information system and validation processes to align with the applicable regulations.
2023 Tax Revenue Realization
In fact, the 2023 tax revenue realization exceeded the set targets, both the original State Budget (APBN) target and its revised version.
The 2023 tax revenue reached IDR 1,869.2 trillion, which is 108.8% of the APBN target and 102.8% of the revised APBN target under Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 75 of 2023.
The 2023 realization also marked an 8.9% increase from the 2022 tax revenue of IDR 1,716.8 trillion, partly due to the growth in the domestic economy. (ASP/KEN)
